Metting with Contact Singapore

On the 2nd of September, SSA Flinders met up with delegates from Contact Singapore, Ms Wee Lim Bay, Area Director of Australia and Ms Jancis Tan, Executive.

They provided valuable insight and information about the establishment of Contact Singapore in Australia and about the future events to come.

At the same time, our friends from SSA University of Adelaide were also present.

It was a fruitful session as it gave SSA Flinders the opportunity to establish contacts with other organizations from Singapore to give its members more information and access to services available for career opportunities back in Singapore.

Thank you so much Wee Lim and Jancis for organizing this get-together!

National Day Celebration!!!

On the 31st August, SSA Flinders threw a National Day celebration for both Singaporeans and Malaysians at Stamford Hotel, Adelaide City. Since a number of SSA members (including committee members) are from Malaysia, we decided to hold a 'double' event.

Winter Get-Away

To welcome the new committee, new (and returning) students of the year and of course, winter, SSA threw a BBQ!! Yes, many Singaporeans' delights, eg, Nasi Lemak, Fried Noodles, were present for students to feast on, not to mention the BBQ! The SSA committee stayed up late to prepare all the food and it was well worth it. Many students turned up to support us and to join the association. We played a movie-The Best Bet 《突然发财》and some students decided to play games such as twister, pool, foosball that were all provided at the community centre.

Singapore National Health Group Visits Flinders University!

Singapore National Health Group Visits Flinders University!

On the 26th of March, delegates from the Singapore National Health Group (NHG), headed by Ms Jacqueline Chin (Deputy Chief Human Resource Officer), stopped by at Flinders University as part of their recruitment exercise. NHG is an organization that comprises of a group of world renown hospitals with outstanding achievements recognized in the international healthcare industry.

It was an exciting event for us as this was NHG’s first trip to Adelaide and we were honoured to have Flinders University as their first destination. Many Singaporean students and students of other nationalities specializing in various allied health courses turned up for the event. They were treated to engaging information sessions, chaired by Ms Chin and Mr Dennie Hsu (Deputy Director of Clinical Support Services), about the immense benefits to be gained by working in Singapore and for NHG. In addition, interview sessions were also held and many students were given on the spot provisional recruitment offers.

All these success would not have been possible without the help of the First Secretary of the High Commissioner of the Republic of Singapore, Mr Goh Kok Wee, who liaised with NHG. Mr Goh, who visited Flinders University in 2006 for an Overseas Singaporean’s information session, made a trip down to Adelaide once again to grace this event. We are happy that the session received overwhelming response and that it has been a rewarding experience for many!

2007- A yearly update

This is just to let everybody know about events that took place in year 2007!

Contact Singapore/ LINKS 2008
Held at the start of year 2008, it was an event for graduating students to look for career opportunities, for current students to look for internships, scholarships and for future career opportunities and for people who are interested in a certain field, to look for any future opportunities in their respective fields.

Our Vice-President, Xinhui Fung represented us for this event and met our Minister of Manpower, Mr Gan Kim Yong. Other Flinders University students were also present to attend the event and spoke to various representatives from leading healthcare groups such as Singhealth and National Healthcare Group (NHG). It was a rare opportunity for all our students to establish contacts and to inquire about future observations and placements at various hospitals in Singapore.

Visit by Overseas Singaporean Liasions, Mr Goh Kok Wee and Ms Dawn Chen

Mr Goh and Ms Chen paid Flinders University a visit to talk about Overseas Singaporeans, and to establish contacts with the students here. It was a good opportunity to give overseas Singaporeans here more information and contacts regarding placements and career opportunities back in Singapore.

It was a fruitful event as it gave our students an insight to comtemporary governmental policies for overseas Singaporeans. Many thanks to Mr Goh and Ms Chen for coming!!

NDP celebration

Almost every Singaporean who could make it for the NDP celebration turned up at the Deidre Jordan Village Community Centre to celebrate our National Day. Having said that, people from other countries such as Malaysia, Hong Kong, China and of course, Australia also came along to experience first-hand how Singaporeans, especially overseas Singaporeans celebrate their national day. A scrumptious dinner was prepared for the students by the committee and we proceeded to show the parade, during the dinner. Singaporeans and other overseas students alike were also given the chance to know more people, establish social contacts and enjoy the evening.

This dinner would not have taken place without the committee and all those who attended, thanks everyone!!

The event was proudly sponsored by Singapore International Foundation (SIF), with door gifts sponsored by Singapore Tourism Board and Contact Singapore.
